Just to share my experience as a seller. Although securities and regulations are often imposed on seller to protect the buyer, please note that the seller is also often not subject to protection against potential scam buyers.
I have experienced today, and almost miss hit of a scam made by one 'Amanda Li' via email to me on one of my ads. As we usually know, serious buyers and sellers these days would usually deal using whatsapp or mobile ways rather than emails as there may not be any verification possible for the buyer. While sellers particulars are made available on their respective ads, the ad is open to public and any-one could initiate an agreement to purchase. What happened to me was, the scammer sent an email stating he needs the bag urgently for some sort of surprise or gift for his gf, requiring me to send to a unit in AMK. He even offered to pay for cab fare. Of course this sounds to good to be true. When i declined, he begged and plead and even offered to pay a couple of hundreds more than my sale price. Well aware of potential scammers, i insisted that funds be transferred to my accounts first.
As expected, he insisted that i reach the said location within a certain time frame but did not update on payment. I keep insisting on confirmation of funds transfer and he finally gave me an online transaction reference. I was prompt enough to check my account via IB and even checked with the bank officer. Also as expected, he pretended that the funds have been indeed transferred and i should be placing my bag at the said location then. He went silent thereafter when i ask him to update on the transfer. Thereafter he went dead silent.
Thank god i didnt fall for this scam and still have my bag safe and sound.
To all sellers, please take note of these scam buyers and to all buyers, i would hope that you would appreciate that sellers do at times require security as well; so lets come together to create a good and win win situation for a trusted transaction with confidence. After all, we both have one thing in common - the love for exclusive bags!
Lets be vigilant and keep a look out for such scammers and inform the police immediatelyif you experience such incident.
